Hidden gems in the Cotswolds | Hailes Abbey

- Discover one of the hidden gems in the Cotswolds. Hailes Abbey is a 13th century Cistercian Abbey that thrived here in the Cotswolds. Funded primarily by pilgrims wanting to see a phial that allegedly contained the Blood of Christ. Hailes Abbey had elaborate buildings and was a gem of the Cotswolds until the dissolution when sadly King Henry VIII ensured it was no more.
Join us as we walk the grounds of the ruins, explore the museum and take in the beautiful Hailes Church opposite the Abbey which pre-dates it by some way.

A great meet-up with Cara & Ellie. What a stunning place Hailes Abbey is, it’s definately worth a visit & to take your time to have a wander & find out just how the monks lived back in the day.

LOVED seeing your wander with these fun YT friends! I need to stop being so miserly and pay to actually go inside the abbey one day! I go to the church frequently. In fact, there was supposed to be a benefit concert there tomorrow night! But sadly, it got cancelled 😞

Lovely tour, Watto! Very fun to visit with others as well. So many awesome views and it would be awesome to explore even in the rain. It was great to hear how the monks lived and very neat that the church is still used.

Wowsers - quite the cast in this one! Go Kim!! Comedy gold. Love a medieval scammer - honey and saffron! Brilliant. Although saffron is so bloody expensive now!! It's a lovely ruin, we love a Cistercian abbey! (Only been to valley Crucis, but love that one!!) man henry 8th was a ...... knob! Great tour guys!! Cheers 🍻

Haha, you were outnumbered there mind but the Abbey was a nice place to visit and that weather was not too bad, given what we have had this year. Impressive museum and back in its glory days the Abbey must have been one hell of a sight. The wall paintings in the old church was also very impressive and good to see them still there after all this time. Cheers Alan

🤣🤣 Been around since a quarter to one! Love it! We enjoyed seeing you all out together and exploring the old Abbey. Loved seeing the old ruins and hearing a little of it's history. Beautiful, peaceful area too. Not a pleasant diet. Well, other than the 🍺🍺🍺! The artist impression was nice to see since I really couldn't imagine it from the ruins. I see the resemblance Watto. I didn't have much of an idea about the abbeys that can be found in the UK until I visited my first one last year. They really were amazing complexes, the monks led such structured lives. Hailes Abbey looks like a nice alternative place to visit in the Cotswolds if want to see somewhere different.

We have thousands of years of history over here which I guess isn’t matched in the states so much with civilisation. Our heritage is important and it is good that these places are preserved for generations to learn from.
